Starting
in the EASHL, Alex Girard was just one of the many underdogs struggling on
multiple aspects of the game – on the score sheet and to even find a suitable
team.
It
took many games for the natural right-winger to find himself a niche where his
diamond-in-the-rough state could be exploited to good use. With his hybrid
styling of Richard Zednik and Sergei Samsonov, Girard played with and against hundreds
of different players until he joined his first team – Wrath (HoW).
“They were already quite established, they had a few players and some wins behind their
belt.”
Continuing
down on the struggle’s road, Girard’s stand with Wrath was nothing more than
putting a foot on the first steps of the ladder. A point here and there, but
losses in bunches, Alex Girard started to lose confidence and rapidly started
to worship the idea of going back into free agency – which he did on September
9.
“The team had some talent, I think every team does, but it was not much of a
very competitive team.
It only took minimal time for the
Dangler to find a new team; one that was led by one of the EASHL’s most
successful African-American players – Irvin Carter.
Girard initially joined the EastCoast
Rampage as a defenseman, until he had to fill in on the left-wing one night;
the night that changed everything.
“Carter approached me and stated that
he needed d-men, at this point I just wanted to play and accepted the offer.”
Beginning in ECR with only 13 points,
Girard ignited his ascension to the top markers of the team (at the time) piling
up goals and goals, now standing with 28 goals and 9 assists for 37 points on
September 25.
"The guys in the team played great, they were feeding me the puck a
good way and most of the time it was a spot-on taken opportunity.”
The game-winning goals column, jumped from a minimalistic 1, to an
amazing 7.
Girard, who is originally a playmaking dangler, certainly didn’t expect to
see so many goals added to his statistics.
“I love holding on the puck and attracting attention, then pass the puck to a teammate
in the opening, but this style is a bit more difficult to play in the EASHL. I
just happened to stay in the clear most of the time and I was given the puck - the
chance to score.”
With the EastCoast Rampage having a daily seat in Division 2, chances
are Alex Girard is not done scoring just yet.
