So that's it- no more transfers until January (unless a player is unemployed or takes advantage of the wild card system in France's Ligue 1), and what a transfer window last day it was too espebut cially for Manchester City. Not only was the club taken over by the Abu Dhabi United Group they tried to hijack Berbatov 's move to Old Trafford (how I wish that had come off). They ended up financially out-muscling Abramovich (nice to see someone do this), the first time that has happenedand breaking the British transfer record with a £32.5m transfer fee for Robinho from Real Madrid!
Man City fans - can you get your head around what has happened to your club in the last 24 hours?
The rest of the transfer news isn't that exciting which is a relief because I couldn't cope. So the long on going saga of Berbatov to Man Utd happened for a whooping £30.75m which at least provides Spurs with some financial muscle come January, plus Fraizer Campbell has travelled the other way for a season loan as Spurs were a bit light on the striker front. Spurs also signed Croatia defender Vedran on a 6 year deal and not to forget one of the stars of Euro 08, Roman Pavlyuchenko from Spartak Moscow for £14m. Spurs fans must also be in a bit of disbelief they have gone from having four top class forwards in Bent, Defoe, Keane and Berbatov to selling three of them for little under £60m to leave Bent, Campbell and Pavlyuchenko craziness or good business … only time will tell, but it would be interesting to hear what Spurs fans think?
Any way back to the transfer news Everton broke their transfer record by signing midfielder Marouane Fellaini for £15m. They also completed the transfer of Louis Saha from Man Utd on a two year deal and Carlo Nash joined them from Wigan Athletic.Newcastle spent some of the £12m they got from Aston Villa for James Milner on Spain under-21 striker Xisco on a five-year deal and Ignoacio Gonzalez on a season-long loan. Sunderland re-signed their former left-back George McCartney from West Ham for an undisclosed fee whilst letting Danny Higginbotham join his old club Stoke for an undisclosed fee. Stoke didn't stop there they signed Tom Soares from Crystal Palace for £1.25m and Michael Tonge for £2m from Sheffield United.
Hull fans must be please to see such ambition to help maintain Premiership status.
