Hi all,

I have to admit, in terms of sporting events things were overshadowed a little by the Superbowl over here...however I prefer a well-rounded ball over an egg-shaped one any day. No matter what match is on ;-).

This week-end we had the German Bundesliga starting back up again. Some really promising results that will make for a fantastic 2nd half of the season. Hoffenheim managed to win their first game at their new arena in convincing fashion. While everybody was worried they'd be missing their goalgetter Ibisevic (who is out with an injury), his replacement Sanogo focussed on what is being paid for and scored his first goal in his first match with his new blue&white jersery on. The win came at a price though as their other big winter transfer aquisition, "Mr. Almost-German-national-team-keeper-before-going-to-spain-and-rotting-on-Valencias-bench" aka Timo Hildebrandt, injured himself. He might not be out for long, however that would be quite a blow for Rangnick's club.

Munich was beaten 0-1 by a Mladen Petric header, if I was a fan in Dortmund I'd still be mad for letting this guy leave for HSV. Controversy was the non-allowed Toni goal, looking at it myself, I think it should have counted...however, seeing Munich loose definitely makes for a much more interesting start of the 2nd half season.

Bremen and Schalke keep struggling, which is great news for me as a Stuttgart fan. I had a lot to worry about after the 1-5 cup defeat at home at the hands of Munich earlier this week. However the response was a 2-0 win against lowly M'Gladbach. The game itself wasn't anything worth bragging about, but a win is a win and that is exactlty what we needed. The real test will be next week in Leverkusen.

In the wake of all this Bundesliga excitement, I picked up FIFA 09 again to continue my Manager Mode with St. Pauli. Now I can't wait to bring them into the 1. Bundesliga to take on some German heavy-weights.

What else has been happening...in England I only caught a glimpse of the Chelsea vs. Liverpool tilt. All decided by a pretty bad referee decision, the red card against Lampard was harsh, especially after what Gerrard did to him before. Either way, Liverpool needed their "Golden Boy" aka Fernando Torres to strike twice just seconds before full time to bring this one home. ManU seems to be cruising to another title, but we'll keep our eyes open to see if they slip.

Spain is seeing a pretty lopsided season, Santander had Barca in the ropes, but how nice must it be to able to bring on Messi for the last 20 Minutes and seeing him score 2 goals to turn the match. Raul helped his Madrid side to a win and equalized an old Di Stefano goal scoring record on the way. Even while being 12 points behind Barca, Real seems to be the only real competitor for the title

The Italian league is in awe of Beckham's skills...he scored a goal last week, and provided 2 assists in Milans 3-0 victory this week. It brings the "Rossoneri" (hope that's how you spell it ;-)) into touching distance to Inter. There will be quite some fight for the title there.

That should be enough to get some discussion about this weeks footy results going. Let me know what brought your footy blood to the boiling point this week-end...

...I will end this blog by reminding all of you that the transfer season is coming to an end. This means it is almost time for this years FIFA 09 winter transfer update. We're just putting the final touches on as we speak and should be able to deliver it to all you out there within the next week. As soon as I have a firm date we'll let you all know when it's time to do some roster downloading ;-).

Cheers,
marcel
